It’s Flippin’ Friday! #4

Time to give us those stories of treasures again!

Last week we saw a Mikasa Garden Harvest square baking dish do a “triple loopy” flip and a bunch of plastic ladies faces execute a backwards “round the world” flip!¬† So what exciting stories¬† do we have this week?

Let us know what you found, how much you paid, and what you got for it (and of course, any other fun details)! We’ll be waiting in the spectator seats!

My dad found an unopened gift set of Hai Karate after shave and colonge (still in it’s original shrink wrap) out at the “transfer site”- aka dump- where he works part-time on the weekends. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Hai Karate it’s a colonge they stopped making in the 1980’s but it had some pretty clever and memorable marketing. Anyways- this week I put it up on Ebay and it’s currently up to $47! Not bad for finding it in the trash.

I’ve never heard of that cologne…good for you! I like the name..HAI KARATE! Sounds like you should yell it everytime you splash it on! Good luck on your auction!! You can’t beat free.

I found a Coney Island Amusement Park Tablecloth from the 40’s at an antique mall for $20.00. It was cheap because it was the Coney Island in Cincinnatti, Ohio. However…theres many o’people who collect items from that defunct amusement park. The tablecloth went for $100.00.

Rebecca you already know about this one but for the rest of you here is my greatest claim to fame.

I stopped at a garage sale that was winding down on a Sunday afternoon following a week-end of selling. An older woman was selling her worldly possessions and moving closer to her daughters up north. The daughters were present and just wanted to move stuff, well, so they wouldn’t have to “move stuff”. In the back of the garage I saw an overlooked box of ribbon. It was pretty and…FULL. I asked the ladies what they wanted for it and walked away with the box for under $10.00. To my utter delight I discovered a box with gorgeous, UNUSED, VINTAGE, SILK, FRENCH RIBBON!!!!!!!I didn’t know any better and listed them as a “lot”. The bidding war started 2 hours after I listed them. End result over$ 450.00!! Needless to say, I look for ribbon everywhere I go now…

Picked up a vintage smoking jacket at a senior citizens yard sale for $2.00. My daughter’s boyfriend wore it for Halloween – went as Hugh Hefner – told him I wanted it back to sell on Ebay. He thought that was funny. Sold the jacket for $99.00. Found another smoking jacket the next week at a thrift store in our town for a $1.00 and sold it on Ebay for $150.00. Always on the lookout for these smoking jackets but have never found any more.
