In elementary school, the pencil sharpener was my enemy. I never fully mastered the rotating circle thingy, the appropriate pencil pressure, or the proper amount of rotations before the pencil was “eaten” and you had to start all over. I also was the kid who was “punked” routinely when the shavings container fell off and scattered the mess at my feet.
But today, I have made peace with the ol’ pencil sharpener. Namely because it seems to have come back as a valuable piece of nostalgia. In the age of emails and Wordpad…the pencil is still used by a sentimental few. And they are digging the old rotating pencil sharpeners. Both wall and desk mounted versions can go between $25.00 and $50.00. Vintage electric pencil sharpeners also have a following and can bring around $30.00-$50.00 depending on age and condition.
